…when I noticed that the author/illustrator was, low and behold, JOE FENTON! I thought, “Wait…when did I do this?” But I didn’t do this. There’s another illustrator out there sporting my identity. That might be a bit too strong of a statement. But there is another guy out there illustrating his heart out, who happens to share my name. I actually see some striking similarities between his style and mine. I found some more of his work at www.joefentonart.com. I thought about contacting him to see if he wants to team up. We could be twice as prolific.

Seriously! Over the last 10 years I’ve managed to get through college, start a business, go through 3 website redesigns, start 4 blogs and a forum all without paying for an official internet service in my home. BUT NOW, maybe I’ll actually be able to participate in and maintain some these things like the real guys do, because today I GOT THE INTERNET! So thank you to all the cups of wi-fi-providing-coffee-shop coffees, neighbors with no regard for security, jobs with lax internet policies, 21st century mobile phone capabilities, and offline development technologies compiled over long hours of R & D. Without you my internet presence would be non-existent.

I’m reminded of 1992 when our neighbor, Boo said “This computer has a ‘modem’! If you put one in your computer, our computers could talk to each other.” This thing’s really caught on, eh! And now I’m officially in.

In 2009 I was very fortunate to work with some amazing companies, who understand and appreciate what goes into valuable design. With HOPE worldwide I’ve been designing to support the U.S. (now North America) Chapters with collateral marketing materials. I’ve been able to offer some unique brochure and campaign designs. In November I designed my first billboard for an Adoption Recognition Day campaign in Athens, Georgia.

I’ve also been having a lot of fun exploring my cartography techniques, creating facility maps for LinkedIn. Not only am I a contractor, I’m also a member.

These project have really been testing my technical, vector, crispy clean design skills and approach. But I am steadily laboring to find a convergence of these corporate clear pieces with a more whimsical, personal, illustrative characterization. This year I think I’ll get there, Oh I’ll get there.

I really wanted to publicly thank HOPE worldwide and LinkedIn for being graceful and appreciative companies to work for. THANKS!!

Our little Millie rode the wave into her first birthday. Thanks to all the family and friends that came over last weekend for our rubber duckie fiasco. Millie loved it! It was a riot watching her dig into her first little cake with strawberry frosting in nothing but a diaper. The thing I’m most happy about is that my wife and I were able to keep the little bugger alive for a whole year. And I’m definitely falling more and more in love with her.

I did the card design on a little, spur-of-the-moment Photoshop adventure with an integration of on one of Tim McKenna’s spectacular shots of the legendary Teahupoo break.

I’m putting them up here a week after the event because I was unable to find reliable wifi all week. Hey, what do you expect from ‘a blog of chance’? But the event was pretty awesome. We met a lot of great educators and a banjo player, while promoting the cause of effective and fun emotional education.

This time it told her to write this song for Mother’s Day and submit it to the Ellen show. Our friend Rob had some music that has been playing in his soul since he was a teen. He was kind enough to offer it up for my wife to lay some beautiful lyrics over. Let us know what you think of it.
