I suppose this is a self-portrait. It’s the first thing I drew (the scowl portion of the drawing) when my wife came home with my 8 week old daughter– WITH HER EARS PIERCED! I wasn’t exactly against it, but she gave me little warning that she was going to get it done that day. So that brought on the scowl. However, I have learned that people have very polarized views on piercing an infant’s ears. They are either totally for it because it’s good to just get it out of the way when they’re too young to remember the pain, or they are totally against it based on old-school traditionalist views on modesty (I think). It took me a little while to get used to it. My Millie’s just as beautiful with or without them.
Anyhoo, the drawing…
So I had to leave this one as the mere start of an idea, because this was one of the pieces of paper that was killing my pens. At first I was frustrated, but I think it works as a composition regardless.
